The Librarian Spy by Madeline Martin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars This was definitely a different type of read for me. I love historical fiction, and this was definitely that. The first person POV between two different women on two different sides of the world was a bit off-putting at first, and I wondered if they'd ever meet. (I won't spoil that for you!) But Madeline Martin does a good job with the suspense and the action, and I felt like I was there in some scenes. Really great read! View all my reviews

By the time Making Christmas Magic releases on November 2nd, it will have been two and a half years since my last book release. So I had my fingers crossed when I started submitting this book to reviewers. I'm happy to say that the first review brought a HUGE smile to my face! And I appreciate Heidi Lynn so much for such a quick turnaround time!
A Potion to Die For by Heather Blake
My rating: 5 of 5 stars This was my first cozy mystery as I've just now gotten into the genre, and I can honestly say I couldn't have picked a better book as my first! Heather Blake has such a way with characterization that you feel as though you actually know the characters. Fast-paced and humorous, the story kept my attention easily, and I couldn't wait to find out who'd killed the poor victim. And just when I thought I knew, Heather threw a twist in I didn't see coming which was perfect! Overall, A Potion to Die For was a witty, wonderful story, and I can't wait to read the next in the series! View all my reviews I had to force myself to put this book down once I picked it up. I read it in three days, reading after midnight each night. It's a new adult novel which ordinarily doesn't attract me, but there was something about the back description that attracted me, and it ended up in my cart at Target. I don't know how many ways to say you will not regret buying this book. Walker and Didi seem like the most incompatible people on the planet, but the sparks say otherwise. He's a wounded soldier awash in guilt, and she's a therapist-in-training doing everything she can to stay professional with him. Their connection was combustible. And I looked forward to engaging with them every night. I've never read a book quite like this one before. It's told in alternating first points of view between Walker and Didi, which allows you to get into their heads and see their world through their eyes. There are no chapters, just changes of view, and the book almost forces you to keep reading because you have to know what she thinks about what he said and what he thinks about what she did. Truly engaging! I've never read a book by Mila Gray, but I'll be buying the first and the third book in this series. Warning: This book does contain language and sexual scenes (sensual not erotic).
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
My rating: 5 of 5 stars This book was magical. It's been a long time since a book captivated me. I got frustrated when I had to put it down and couldn't wait to pick it back up. The intricate way Ransom wove the pictures into the story was so inventive. I applaud this author's enviable talent and am getting ready to read Book #2, Hollow City now! View all my reviews |
