Day 30—Highs and Lows for the Month

2/25/2016

AToday is the final day of the blog challenge, and I've successfully blogged every day for the past thirty days! I enjoyed this so much I may do a challenge every other month or so! At any rate, here are my highs and lows for the month as today's topic!

Highs
Teaching a class at Women on Writing
Finalizing another YA story
Getting an article accepted by a major magazine
Beginning my kitchen makeover
Creating a video for the fabulous Lisa Renee Jones
This blog challenge
Finding an exercise program that works for me
Getting the rights back to six books

Lows
Finding out I may have to have another surgery
And that's about it. Honestly, this month has been way more good than bad!

Thanks for stopping by my blog these past thirty days!  Now I'm back to finding my own topics to blog about!

Day 29—Life in 5 Years

2/24/2016

How will my life be like in five years? I know how I'd like it to be, but we don't always get to make those choices. So I'm going to pull out my crystal ball and just give this a whirl.

In five years, I'll be living in a condo in downtown Charleston overlooking the water. I'll have over 100 novels published (I'm halfway there!), own a Lexus, have visited all of the states and several countries, and be as happy then as I am right now.  Who knows? I might even have found my true love. If even one of those come true, I'll be ecstatic!

Day 28—Something I'm Looking Forward To

Recently, I got the idea to make some changes to my kitchen. I'm going 1950s style, and I can't wait to get fully started. Purchases are already being made, and I'm including pictures below!

Retro tin signs will hang on the wall next to the payphone, and I have huge art of 1950 red Chevys as well. The tile will be a white marble look, and the counter tops will be laminate with chrome edging. I'm very excited about this project and cannot wait to really get started on it!

Day 27—3 Songs

Today I'm supposed to write about three songs I've written to this past week. And here they are:
If You Ever Leave Me by Vince Gil and Barbra Streisand
Girl Crush by Little Big Town
Talk Show Sshh by Shae Jones
These were used while I was writing the 3rd book in the Discovering Emily series as well as a brand new book in an Assassins series!

Day 26—Fantastic!

2/21/2016

Today's challenge is to write about something that's going fantastic right now.  There are so many great things happening in my life, and I'm grateful for all of them. One thing that has really escalated this last month is my writing (which encompasses the actual writing as well as everything that goes with it like promoting, etc.).  I am getting more done because I have shifted my focus.

I used to be spend easily two hours a night on Facebook. Since I've eliminated that from my schedule, I'm using the time to benefit my career. I have already finished a novel this year, am teaching a class for beginning writers, and am working on two articles which I should finish before the end of this month. In addition, I've had time to participate in things like this 30-day blog writing challenge!

Day 25—Five things that make me laugh out loud

2/20/2016

I make sure to laugh every day as laughter really is the best medicine. That said, here are five things that will make me laugh until my sides hurt:
  1. Far Side comics (How I miss these!)
  2. Every episode of Friends (All episodes available now on Netflix)
  3. America's Funniest Home Videos (There's always that one that will make me pause the TV because I'm laughing so hard!)
  4. Every episode of Frasier (All episodes available on Netflix)
  5. Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall (Their comedy is priceless!) Look them up on Youtube. I dare you not to laugh!

Day 24—One Person from History

2/19/2016

Today's post is about one person from history I'd like to spend a day with. There are sooooo many people that I'd love to have the opportunity to talk to even if it's only ten minutes, but to spend a day with? That's a tough one. How can I choose just one when there are so many people who have lived amazing lives? People who have survived unimaginable tragedies and who have persevered in the face of those horrors. I couldn't choose just one so I'm cheating today and listing three, not necessarily my top three, but ones that came to mind when I saw this challenge. (I did not include Jesus on this list because I believe I will have the chance to talk to Him.)

1. Corrie Ten Boom—There is no questioning this woman's dedication to society. Her selfless sacrifice for others is inspirational. I would love the chance to have one conversation with her, to ask her what made her give her life for others. I suspect it's because that was just who she was.

2.  Ronald Reagan—What a life this man led! From an actor to President of the United States. His presidency is consistently referenced even in the current political climate. On top of that, he had a wicked sense of humor, loved this country, and left behind a legacy few will ever be able to emulate. I doubt one day would be enough for me!

3.  Lucille Ball—Long one of my favorite comedians, Lucille Ball had a never give up spirit. Even an illness that prevented her from working for two years didn't stop her from fulfilling her dream of being an actress.  She didn't stop until she achieved her goal, and I can only imagine the wealth of knowledge she could impart to someone trying to fulfill their own dream!

Day 23—An area that needs improvement

I'm supposed to write about an area of my life that needs improvement. It's hard to choose just one. In reality, there are a lot of areas that could use a boost. Since I have to choose just one, I'm going with time management. It's not that I'm bad at managing my time, but there are days when I get caught in the vortex of social media, especially Facebook, and the next thing I know, two hours have passed.

For the past two days, I've not logged onto Facebook until about fifteen minutes before I'm turning out the light to go to sleep. It helps knowing I don't have much time, and I don't end up reviewing every post or clicking on every link. I'm going to keep doing this for the next few days to see if I can develop a habit!

Day 22—A Television Show I'm Currently Addicted To

2/17/2016

Have you seen this show? If you're a fan of DC Comics, and you aren't watching Arrow, you are missing out! Of course I just watch it for the fight scenes and the action. Right. Have you seen Stephen Amell? Or David Ramsey?

I got addicted to this show when I started binge-watching it over the summer on Netflix. By the time the new season rolled around, I was all caught up. Few TV shows can make me sit in front of the TV when an original episode airs. Arrow is one of those shows for me.

There is so much to love about this show, but here are my top ten things:
  • The chemistry between Oliver and Felicity
  • The bromance between Oliver and John Diggle
  • The entanglement of lies, deceit, love, and fear.
  • The incredible fight scenes (even though I know they're not real)
  • The shirtless scenes of Stephen Amell
  • The banter/wit between the characters (some lines make me laugh out loud)
  • The brother/sister relationship between Oliver and Thea
  • The pure evil of Malcolm Merlyn played by John Barrowman (fans of Torchwood, take note!)
  • The fast pace of the storyline. (I'm never bored!)
  • And finally, the phenomenal acting chops of all the actors. The casting director did not go wrong choosing this group. There's not one person I would change on the show.
The first three seasons are on Netflix now! If you do watch, let me know what you think. I'd love to know I've created another fan!  In the meantime, a new episode airs tonight so this post couldn't have been more perfectly timed!

Day 21—My Earliest Memory

2/16/2016

Picture
When I saw this blog post in the challenge, I didn't have to think about what I was going to write. Unfortunately, my earliest memory is also one of my scariest.

I couldn't have been more than three when a tornado came through Charleston. I remember standing in front of the screen door. My mom was behind me. My sisters had just gotten off the bus from school, and all of a sudden, Mom flung open the door and yelled at them to run. They came hustling up the driveway. I remember looking up and seeing this huge black cloud (what I thought was a cloud at the time), and I couldn't stop looking at it. It looked like it was going to swallow our house. I started crying, and we were all shuffled into the kitchen to stand in the doorway, which was what we thought we were supposed to do at the time.

The tornado passed over us, but for the longest time, I had an overwhelming fear of tornadoes. Whenever a tornado watch would be issued, my stomach would clench, and if there was a tornado warning, I was a basket case. When I was twelve, a tornado did hit our house, and that only added fuel to my fire. Now, years and years later, I've managed to overcome the fear, but I have never forgotten that first memory.
