When a plot point doesn't make sense

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN, THURSDAY, APRIL 28TH'S EPISODE OF LEGENDS OF TOMORROW!
Hopefully, if you haven't watched tonight's episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, you have already left this page. I really don't want to spoil any scenes! With that said...

What was Kendra thinking? She had a chance to kill Vandal Savage, and instead, she chose to believe that only he could bring back Carter's memory. This was wrong on so many levels!

First, why would she trust a man who has killed her and Carter over 200 times?  Trust should not have even entered into the equation. Does she really believe she will be rewarded by the return of Carter's memory for sparing Savage's life?

Second, she has been with Ray for over two years (if you count the time travel), and she has seen what he can do scientifically as well as Dr. Stein. Did she not stop to consider they could help her? That ship has brilliant minds aboard, and Kendra is believing Savage alone is the only one capable of returning Carter's memory? Did she not just figure out how to kill Savage on her own with just flashbacks and a bracelet?

Third, with everything she's seen and done this season, did she really think restoring a man' s memory will be too difficult?  She and Ray have lived in the 1950s. She has met and talked to her future self. Ray built a beacon that would attract the crew when they were stuck in the 1950s. They have outrun the Time Masters again and again, and, let's not forget how this crew has rounded up their younger selves for safekeeping. And restoring a memory is going to stump them?

Fourth, how could she risk everyone's life, including Ray's? Did she not consider what will happen to Ray with Savage about the ship?  The writers made her come across as incredibly selfish in this scene. She's not even sure she wants to be with Carter, but she's willing to let Rip's wife and son die until she's sure?

I'm sorry, but this was a glaring error on the writers' part, and personally, I think they should have allowed her to split Savage's head open like a grapefruit. While I understand they needed to keep Savage alive for the plot, but using Kendra in such an absolutely unbelievable way was completely unnecessary.  There had to be another way. Look at the many times Savage has escaped before.

I hope the writers can salvage Kendra's character after this and restore her determination to make things right.

Oh, one more thing of note: what happened to Stein? One minute he's fine, the next he's been stabbed, and we don't know by who or how it happened. I'm still confused over that one!

Giving Back

I've been incredibly blessed this year, and we're only nearing the end of April. I know many authors are still struggling to find their way in this community, whether it's through their writing or the marketing of their books. Because of my blessings, I want to pay it forward.

Over the next month, I'm going to randomly choose authors to give something to. It might be a sale, quote graphics, a book video, or business cards. Or maybe a day's worth of shout-outs on my 5000+ Twitter page. Whatever I'll do, I want it to benefit the author and, hopefully, bring a smile. I want to let authors know that we are in this together, that if we work together as a team, everyone reaps the rewards.

And so begins my journey of giving back! I'll be on the hunt this week!

What Makes Me Feel Better

Everyone has bad days now and again no matter how good our life is going. And there are times when you just have to ride out the misery, but there is one thing I can do that instantly lifts my spirits. Well, two things actually. I either sing or listen to music. It instantly recharges me.

Years ago, I sang in my church choir, and I miss it now. I miss the joy of joining in with a dozen or so other voices and just singing at the top of my lungs.  Now, I do that in my car or while I'm getting ready in the morning. I sing to my cat, to my friends on the phone, or while I'm pumping gas. And in the midst of a day that isn't going so well, I start to smile.

As the picture says, music heals the soul. I believe that, and when I can't sing because of where I am at the moment, I plug in my headphones and listen to music. Pretty soon, the words are resounding in my head and blocking out any negative emotions.

Right now, I'm addicted to Imagine Dragons. Their songs, Demons, Radioactive, I Bet My Life, Warriors, and Ready, Aim, Fire, are some of my go-tos when I want to change my mood!

My Dream Job

I saw this blog topic on another blog challenge, and after this week, I knew I had to write about it.

You'd think writing books would be my dream job, but it isn't. I love to write, and writing will always be part of my dream, but...my dream job is to write for television. I have scads of favorite television shows both past and present, and there isn't one I wouldn't want to write for.

That brings me to the next part of this post. I'm taking steps to see if I can make this dream happen.  I don't believe it's ever too late to pursue your dream, and now that I have over fifty books written, I want to branch out and try something new. Fingers and toes crossed!

Me in the Third Person

4/1/2016

I saw this in the book 642 Things to Write About so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I'm supposed to describe myself (both appearance and personality) in the third person. So here goes:

With her extremely pale skin, Rachel could pass for a vampire, and in fact, someone once told her if she was any whiter she'd be dead. Unfortunately, she doesn't tan although she has tried on numerous occasions. The sun isn't her friend.

At barely 5'2, Rachel makes up for her lack of height with a lot of personality. She's outspoken, aggressive, and ambitious, all three of which have gotten her into trouble at least once in her life.

She wears her brown hair short because she likes that it's easy to style. She's high maintenance enough! And when I say high maintenance, I mean won't leave the house without make-up doesn't wear t-shirts outside the house type of high maintenance.

Rachel believes in finding something to laugh about every day and surrounds herself with positive people. She can't be mired in negativity too long before she has to seek an escape. If you're a friend of hers on Facebook, you'll see that she rarely, if ever, posts anything negative. That's good, though, right?

So there you have it. The short, sweet version of Rachel Carrington.
