Today, I voted. As a woman, I'm grateful for the right as we didn't always have it. I'm thankful that I can make my voice heard and my opinion matter. I don't shout my views from the rooftop because I can let them be heard inside the voting booth. Have you voted today?

Today, I'm grateful for those pictures I've kept of times gone by, those old photographs I've kept in a drawer or even on a cell phone I don't use anymore. Those pics enable me to see the people who've already passed on, loved ones who will never sit across from me at the table, never share a laugh with me, and those I can never hug again. But thanks to these pictures, I'll never forget their faces, and when I'm looking at them, the talks we had while they were alive remind me of the connection we shared and the love that will always remain. Those old pictures also remind me of good times I've shared and can bring a smile to my face when I'm feeling worn down. I can look at the faces of the people I love and know that I'm living a wonderful life, and I have people to share it with. I'll always be grateful for these photographic memories. Today, I"m grateful for faith. I can't imagine living my life without it. I trust God to help me make the right choices in life and to comfort me when the unexpected hits. God gives me free will which means I call the shots in my life. At times, I may not listen to Him, and I make the wrong decision. It's during those times that I'm grateful that he never moves, and He always forgives.
I'm grateful for my faith because, with it, I have hope for the future. I know that what happens here on earth is not the end of my journey. I have something to look forward to beyond this world. That's why my faith means everything to me. Today, I'm grateful for joy. No matter what the day holds, what is going on in my life, I can choose joy. No matter the circumstances unfolding around me, I can choose joy. That doesn't mean I'm happy about negative things. As a person of faith, I know that joy comes from God. It's not the joy that means I'm smiling all the time, and it doesn't mean my heart is never heavy. I can still have joy in my heart knowing God is still, and will always be, in control.
I believe we never stop learning so there will always be teachers in our lives. I"m especially thankful for those people who teach without even realizing it. Those mentors who share a moment of wisdom that I'll carry with me for the rest of my life. Like my friend's father who told me to never let anyone know where my goat's tied which is code for: don't give people power over your life. But I'm also grateful for the teachers that taught me to write and to read, the ones who made me learn about history and science, poetry, and economics even when I didn't want to. For those teachers opened my eyes to a world with limitless possibilities. What teacher are you grateful for today? As I write this, I'm looking at palm trees blowing in the wind. The grass beneath it is still a vibrant green, making me want to walk barefoot through the blades. Today, I'm grateful for nature as it's an escape for my mind. Watching squirrels racing up the trees and listening to the chatter of birds can be calming to the soul. So today, I'm grateful for nature.
Today, as the air grows cooler around me, I'm grateful for the changing seasons. I've never been a big fan of summer because I burn too easily in the sun, and the heat drains me. So each year, I look forward to the first leaf falling from the tree next to my house, signalling the beginning of fall. I know then that I have three seasons to enjoy before summer rolls around again. And I take advantage of the beautiful weather as much as I possibly can!
Today, I'm grateful for prayer. I'm grateful that I can reach out to a caring, loving God and know He's there, that He's listening. Knowing that he's only a word away means the world to me. Whether it's a quick chat or a long conversation, I can talk to Him anytime, day or night.
The power of prayer has been proven to me, and I can't imagine my life without this amazing opportunity to come boldly to the throne of grace! Music has the ability to change your mood in an instant. It can foster joy, but it can also help to ease the pain of a heartache. Sometimes, you need to cry and can't. Music can help. At other times, when you're feeling low, you need something to lift your spirits. Music can do that, too. There have been plenty of times in my life when I closed the door, turned off the lights, and immersed myself in music. So today, I'm grateful for music.
Today, I'm grateful for kindness. I was at a restaurant and saw so many exchanges of kindness that it made me smile and made my heart a little lighter. It wasn't just the waitresses being nice to the customers. It was customers complimenting customers, employees helping one another, and customers sharing stories and jokes with the wait staff.
There is evil in this world, but there is still so much good. Try looking for it when you're out and about. Let's shine a light on kindness and bring it to the forefront. |
